Following Robin’s decision to move on, the Club is looking to recruit new staff.
If you’re interesting in working for Cheam Sports Club on a permanent full-time, part-time or job-share basis, please contact me for an informal chat.
We’re looking for reliable, flexible and customer focused people who can help look after and develop our Club. It’s an enjoyable place to work and we are happy to look at developing roles to suit individual’s needs and abilities.

ROBIN VAN SANDEN (REPEAT)

Our Club Manager, Robin Van Sanden, has decided to tender his resignation and plans to move on in mid June.  We all thank Robin for all his efforts and his continuing commitment to the Club. Managing the Club is a challenging role and Robin says he will take much from the experience.

He’s assured us he won’t become a stranger but felt it was time to look for new challenges and spend more time with his fiancee. It also means he can play more cricket and watch football (but don't tell Charmaine that part!).

Robin, thank you again for putting in the hours and continuing to do so, as well as listening to and looking after all those members at the bar. We all wish you every success in the future, along whichever path you decide to take.

SMOKING OUTSIDE THE CLUBHOUSE

Following a lot of feedback from users of both Cheam Sports Club and Cannons, the area outside the entrance to both Clubs is now completely non-smoking.

Smokers from the Sports Club are asked to walk around the building and use the pathway at the rear before the patio.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

We are delighted to announce that Vandra McLean is our new caterer and will start running her business at the Club on Saturday 5th April.

Vandra has put together an exciting and fresh new menu which will be available over the Bar from 12 to 6 on Saturdays and from 12 to 5 on Sundays. She will also be liaising with each of our sports to ensure requirements for team meals are met and that content, timings and price are all agreed.

If you need to speak to Vandra about catering for your sport, team or a function you have booked at the Club, please call her on 0208 773 1821 or 07882946224.

We are very pleased to have such a positive person working with us and we know that all our members will support Vandra in making this venture a great success.

WE WANT YOUR MONEY. Might as well be honest about it.

We need to refurbish the Hall (The Connolly Room) this summer so we are organising a GRAND RAFFLE to raise £3000. Posters and flyers are going up in the Club over the weekend advertising the event and tickets will be £1 each. We want to raise £3000 so please be as generous as you can! Top prize will be two EUROSTAR tickets to PARIS. Keep an eye on the NEWS Page for details.

Message from the Club Secretary:" As some of you will have seen we now have a Facebook option on the website, whatever that may be. (note to self: what is a website? ditto, facebook? Is this when one passes out after a heavy reading session?)

Anyway, I am assured this will assist in the development of the Club as we move into the digital age. I myself remain appalled, and indeed am still writing letters to complain, that I can no longer tune in to Radio 4 on 1500m long-wave. (why indeed is it 1500m longwave, instead of good old fashioned 4921 feet and 3 inches? Eurocrats! More to the point, why Radio 4, surely it should still be the Home Service? You mean we’ve actually left India? What on earth is the world coming to? Yet another note to self: arrange meeting with ex-President of the Cricket Club to discuss)

In all seriousness, not admittedly something I do particularly well, why not join us on Facebook? Just like garlic bread, it’s the future. (Alan Rankin) "
